Lives on the Shore

Cineteca Madrid screens Vidas en la orilla (2025), the third feature by Mexican director Lucía Gajá, as part of Focus México. Almost twenty years after Mi vida dentro, the filmmaker returns to the story of Rosa Estela Olvera Jiménez, a Mexican migrant accused of killing a minor, showing how her family and various social groups won back the freedom she had been unjustly denied. Gajá, an Ariel winner and member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, also directed Batallas íntimas. The screening takes place on 6 November 2026; admission is paid.
