Shostakovich's Fourth — Andris Poga Between contemplation and the abyss: two views of the 20th century
The Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya (OBC), conducted by Andris Poga, brings a programme of contrasts to L'Auditori in Barcelona. It opens with the Spanish premiere of Chant of Gratefulness, a new work by Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks, spiritual and meditative in style, where silence and resonance play a structural role. It continues with Dmitri Shostakovich's Symphony No. 4, Op. 43, written in 1935–1936 and withdrawn before its premiere under pressure from the Soviet regime: a radical, grotesque and tragic score. Performances on Saturday 17 at 7 pm and Sunday 18 October at 11 am, lasting about 120 minutes. Tickets from €20.
