Encuentros de Pamplona 2026: ritual ceremony of the Voladores de Papantla

As part of Encuentros de Pamplona 2026, the city hosts the ceremony of the Voladores de Papantla, a ritual of the Totonac people of Veracruz, Mexico, listed by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Four flyers climb a tall pole while a leader plays flute and drum at the top; they then launch themselves into the air tied to ropes, spinning slowly down like birds, honouring nature and the spiritual world.
