Lecture: Hispanic queens, medieval heroines
Isabel San Sebastián gives this lecture challenging the cliché of the helpless medieval maiden waiting for a knight to rescue her. She looks at the great queens of Christian Spain, determined women who defended their kingdoms, their legitimacy and that of their children, through diplomacy and, when needed, on the battlefield. Among them are Sancha and Urraca de León, Toda de Navarra, María de Molina and Isabel de Castilla. Aimed at anyone interested in history and women's role in it. It takes place on 26 October 2026 at 7:00 pm at the Nave de Terneras of the Centro Cultural Casa del Reloj in Madrid. Free admission.
