"Barakaldo celebrates 975 years of written history"
Throughout 2026, Barakaldo City Council and Laguntasuna are marking the 975th anniversary of the earliest known written mention of the town's name: the Latin term "baracaldonensis", linked to Lope Blascoz, in a document dated 30 January 1051 and kept in the Becerro Galicano of the Monastery of Yuso in San Millán de la Cogolla. Open to all residents, the programme includes a Medieval Fair in San Vicente on the 19th and 20th, and on 13 October the unveiling of totems and an educational exhibition along Fueros street, from the church to the metro. Local experts will take part to explain the historical meaning of this reference.
