Aida — Opera by Giuseppe Verdi
The Gran Teatre del Liceu opens its season with Aida, Verdi's monumental four-act opera to a libretto by Antonio Ghislanzoni, in a production by Iranian artist Shirin Neshat that originated at the Salzburg Festival and is co-produced with the Opéra national de Paris. Avoiding the usual grandiosity, the staging explores identity, exile, oppression and the fragility of power. The casts include Anna Netrebko, Anna Pirozzi, Yusif Eyvazov and Piotr Beczała. Performances run from 23 September to 15 October; the 23 September show is exclusively for under-35s. Running time is about 4 hours. Tickets cost from €13 to €284.
