"63Rd Popular Singing Of The Salve Txikitera In Bilbao"
On 11 October at 8 pm, the feast day of the Amatxu de Begoña, patron saint of Bizkaia, Bilbao's Old Town hosts the popular singing of the Salve Txikitera beside the niche on the La Bolsa building in Pelota street. Started in 1964 by parish priest Epifanio Mezo, the tradition honours departed txikiteros and gave rise to the Fiesta Txikitera. The evening also features a flower offering open to everyone and the sharing of the Begoña cake in exchange for a donation to the Hucha Txikitera, which supports local social organisations. Free admission; attendees are asked to wear a txapela.
