Exhibition "Pagesos contra Franco, 1974-1979" — La Unió de Pagesos and the building of democracy
The Institut d'Estudis Ilerdencs (IEI) in Lleida hosts this free exhibition on how Catalan farmers organised between 1974 and 1979 against the union system imposed by the Franco dictatorship. Across seven thematic sections it traces the protests and conflicts of those years, including the tractor strike and the Pontons Manifesto, through to the founding and consolidation of the Unió de Pagesos. Fifty years on, it highlights the role of rural communities in building democracy. Open 13 October to 5 December 2026, Monday to Saturday and public holidays, 10:00–14:00 and 17:30–20:30; closed Sundays.
