"Baso bidaiariak / Bosques viajeros", an artistic intervention by José Ramón Ais

Etxebarria Park in Bilbao is now the long-term home of this installation by José Ramón Ais: a line of trees designed for public space that crosses the park diagonally as a linear arboretum. Produced by Azkuna Zentroa for Prototipoak 2021, it was first shown on the centre's terrace before its trees were replanted here. Oaks, beeches, ashes, palms and pines tell the story of native and imported species in the Basque Country and their role in shipbuilding and ironworks, on the grounds of the former Etxebarria steelworks and Bilbao's municipal gas factory. A piece for any park visitor curious about landscape and nature.
