Arrantzaleen Museoa (permanent exhibition and guided tours)

Arrantzaleen Museoa in Bermeo has occupied the Ercilla Tower since 1948, a late 15th-century building overlooking the Old Port and declared a National Monument in 1943. Its recently renovated permanent exhibition focuses on Basque fishermen: their life and customs, their guilds, their boats and the techniques used to catch and sell fish. It also covers the Auxiliary Navy of Euzkadi and the history of the tower itself, ancestral home of the Ercilla family, to which Alonso de Ercilla, author of La Araucana, belonged. Guided tours are available with prior booking. Admission: 2 / 3.5 €.
